2009-2013 RWJ/DMF $790,000 PARTNERSHIP
A 2009-2013 $395,000 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant and a $395,000 matching grant from DMF are providing mental health screening, assessment, consultation, education and early intervention services to improve the lives of children ages 0-5 and their families in Cass County, ND, and Clay County, MN.
In 2009, Innovis Health in Fargo, ND, partnered with CMHI to pilot a state-of-the-art hand-held electronic screening tool that helps pediatricians identify social-emotional issues in children ages 6-60 months and includes referral to free mental health consultation services through the initiative.
- The pilot screened 1,673 children from 11/09-8/10
- 9.1% scored as out of normal social-emotional range
- 54 children were referred to the consultant
- 28 families received free consulting services with very positive results
- 100% of children re-screened by the ASQ:SE had improved scores after consultation services
- 100% of follow-up surveys collected indicated improved functioning of child, improved relationship between caregiver and child, and a better understanding of child's development/behavior
- 100% of parents/caregivers surveyed indicated they would recommend this service to others
In 2010, the pilot was expanded to include screening, assessment, and consultation services for Clay County Public Health in Moorhead, MN, and Child Care Resource & Referral, serving Cass County, ND, and Clay County, MN, childcare providers.
