Donors may at any time make a charitable contribution to the Foundation to support our health-related programs. When making a charitable contribution, donors may request that the gift be applied to the Foundation's general fund or that it be applied to a specific initiative, donor advised fund, scholarship fund, or other program of the Foundation.
A bequest is a charitable gift made through a will that bequests money or other property to selected beneficiaries. There are several ways to make a bequest which include the following:
Specific Bequest The donor designates a specific dollar amount, specific percentage of their estate, or specific property to the charitable organization. Residual Bequest The donor's estate will pay all debts, taxes, expenses, and specific bequests. The remaining amount, the residue, will be transferred to the charitable organization.
Contingent Bequest The bequest is made on condition that a specific event occurs before distribution to the beneficiary. For example, the donor names a charitable organization as the beneficiary of their estate only if there are no surviving family members.
The tax benefit of charitable bequests is that they generally lower the taxable estate, which reduces the amount of money the estate pays in taxes.
Dakota Medical Foundation has developed a donor envelope for individuals, organizations or other groups who are interested in contributing to the Foundation. To obtain DMF's donor envelope, please contact the Foundation at 701-271-0263 or toll free at 877-977-5770.
