In 2005, DMF funded a worksite wellness initiative pilot to develop an efficient and cost-effective model that could be replicated across the region to improve the health of area employees. Pilot participants included Grand Forks Public Schools, Jamestown College and West Country Products in Jamestown, ND.
In 2009, DMF and Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota provided $260,000 to expand the worksite wellness program to the entire state of North Dakota. An initiative director was hired and development of a statewide worksite wellness program began.

In the fall of 2010, a worksite wellness summit was held to inform North Dakota businesses and organizations about the benefits of a worksite wellness program as well as to offer tools for program implementation through a comprehensive toolkit and website.
Throughout 2011, worksites across North Dakota can receive assistance to implement worksite wellness programs. In addition, select worksites interested in starting a worksite wellness program or expanding an existing program may receive support through the Initiative.
